Mother's Day Activities

In addition to the all important Mother's Day crafts, here are some songs and activity ideas for bringing the spirit of this special day into your preschool or kindergarten classroom:

Pick a Flower -Teach children the colors with this fun song and activity.
  • Cut flowers out of paper. Be sure that each flower is a different color.
  • Talk about Mother's Day and that sometimes we like to give flowers to Mom on this day.
  • Ask a child which color flower he/she would like to choose for their Mom.
  • Lead the children in this song:
(Child's Name) picked a pink flower, pink flower, pink flower.
(Child's Name) picked a pink flower for his/her Mom.

If you love your Mom and you know it! - To the tune of If You're Happy And You Know It sing: If you love your Mom and you know it blow a kiss, If you love your Mom and you know it blow a kiss, If you love your Mom and you know it and you really want to show it, If you love your Mom and you know it blow a kiss.
Also use- give a hug, give high fives, do all three!

"Boat pose" with Mom!

Mom and Me Yoga! - Show your kids some yoga poses they can do with their mom! Check out these yoga poses for preschoolers

I have to also list one of my favorite crafts. Recently I saw it in Cute DIY projects- remember sewing cards? Whatever happened to them?

"I Love You" Homemade Cards -  Here's how to make them:
  • Draw a heart on a piece of sturdy paper
  • Using a big needle poke holes around the heart
  • Thread colorful yarn in various ways all around and tie in the back- voila!
What do you normally do with your class for Mother's Day? Crafts, activities, songs?
